Extraordinary doctorate award for Natalia Osma

Natalia Osma has received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for the thesis she defended at the beginning of last year. This work, which also received the mention of European Doctorate, was directed by Dr. May Gómez and Dr. Ted Packard, and was entitled "ON THE RESPIRATORY METABOLISM OF MARINE PLANKTON: ITS APPLICATION IN ASSESSING CARBON FLUXEX AND THE ROLE OF SUBSTRATES IN ITS BIOCHEMICAL CONTROL '.

Jellyfish project

In recent days we are starting our jellyfish metabolism studies. In this way, we have the collaboration with the Loro Parque Foundation that already have cultures of several jellyfish species, and they are very interested in collaborating with us in research projects related to these organisms.

EOMAR participated in 'Arucas y el Mar'

On Friday September 23 we were in Arucas with our talk "Microplastics: a new threat to marine ecosystems." And on Sunday at our stand we did a demonstration of how fish can confuse zooplankton with microplastics. We want to thank the whole organization for inviting us, and all attendees for the interest and concern for our seas.

More master thesis

In the first week of september, our students Alejandro Marrero and Sara González-Galisteo defended their master thesis. Alejandro talked about the functional response of the mysid Leptomysis lingvura to prey density, while Sara introduced a new production modeled in the Peru upwelling ecosystem, from nitrate reductase activity and light.
